{"id":12932,"date":"2017-04-25T17:05:46","date_gmt":"2017-04-25T14:05:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/dimoschalkideon.gr\/en\/?p=12932"},"modified":"2017-04-25T17:08:50","modified_gmt":"2017-04-25T14:08:50","slug":"event-boost-tourism-evia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/dimoschalkideon.gr\/en\/event-boost-tourism-evia\/","title":{"rendered":"Event to boost tourism in Evia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span lang=\"en-US\">The strengthening of the tourist flow in Evia and the promotion of cruise<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">s<\/span> <span lang=\"en-US\">visiting<\/span> <span lang=\"en-US\">Evia<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> harbors was the <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">main subject<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> of the event, held on Thursday, April 20th <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">aboard the cruise ship<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> \u201cOCEAN MAJESTY\u201d which was docked <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">at the port of Chalkida <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">for this <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">exact <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">purpose.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The event, crowned with great success, was hosted by the Municipality of Chalkid<span lang=\"en-US\">a<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">, the company &#8220;MAJESTIC INTERNATIONAL CRUISES&#8221; and the Association of Shipowners and Cruise Ship Operators, <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">and was <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">attended by a large crowd coming from all over Evia <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">and the wider region. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">Present<\/span> <span lang=\"en-US\">at the event was <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">the Minister of <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">Maritime<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> and I<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">nsular<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> Policy, <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">Mr.<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> Kourou<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">m<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">plis, the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">Mr.<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> Mavraganis, the <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">MPs<\/span> <span lang=\"en-US\">Mr.<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> Akrioti<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">s<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">, <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">Mr<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">. Pra<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">t<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">solis and <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">Mr<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">. Kedikoglou, the President of the Supreme Court and former Prime Minister <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">Mrs. <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">Vassiliki Thanou, the Regional Governor <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">Mr<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">. Bakoyannis, the <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">Vice &#8211;<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> Regional Governor of Evia <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">Mr<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">. Spanos, the <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">Vice &#8211;<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> Regional Governor of Tourism, Culture and Sports <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">Mr<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">. Kontzia<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">s<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">, <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">the Chief of the<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> Coast Guard <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">Mr<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">. Raptis, the mayors of Dirfyon &#8211; Messapion <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">Mr<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">. Psathas and Istiaia &#8211; Edipsou <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">Mrs<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">. Spanou, the economic supervisor of the <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">Evia Chamber of Commerce Mr<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">. Koukousas, the former MPs <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">Mr<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">. Papageorgopoulos and Kalamakides, the chairman of the <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">Association<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> &#8220;The Smile of the Child&#8221; <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">Mr<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">. Giannopoulos, the chairman of the Ev<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">ia<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> Labor Center <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">Mr. Basinas<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">, deputy mayors <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">and <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">municipal councilor<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">s.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">The event was inaugurated<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> with the commemoration of the crucible <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">performed<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> by the Metropolitan of Chios, <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">Psara<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> and Oinousses, Ch. Marcos (Chios is the shipowner&#8217;s birthplace) <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">and<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> was attended by representatives of the Local Church.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">This was followed by a brief greeting speech by <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">the General Manager of &#8220;MAJESTIC INTERNATIONAL CRUISES&#8221; Michalis Lambros. He stressed among other things that his company <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">swiftl<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">y responded to the <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">proposal of the Mayor of Chalkida<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> for the organization of the event, with the main objective <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">being the<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> further develop<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">ment of<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> the tourist flow in Evia. He also <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">pointed out<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> that Evia <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">offers to its visitors<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> rare tourist<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">ic<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> opportunities, especially <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">the city of <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">Chalkida, which has the privilege of being at a \u2018walking\u201d distance from Athens and can certainly offer its visitors an alternative form of tourism, <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">a potential<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> which unfortunately has to date <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">remained<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> untapped.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">Mr. Lambros was succeeded as speaker by <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">the mayor of <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">Chalkida<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">, Christos Pagonis, who <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">explained<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> that Evia and Chalkida, having experienced the consequences of <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">deindustrialization<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> in recent decades, have already turned <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">their attention<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> to tourism and that the Municipality of <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">Chalkida<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> has <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">as<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> one of its main priorities <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">the development of an extrovert economy<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">, through culture, sports and tourism,<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> the promotion of certain<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> actions<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> and the development of attractions<\/span> <span lang=\"en-US\">with the aim<\/span> <span lang=\"en-US\">to<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> extend the tourist season.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Continuing, the Mayor also <span lang=\"en-US\">mentioned<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> the following:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">M<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">ari<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">time<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> tourism has been and continues to be one of the most dynamic forms of tourism, contributing to the economies of the countries <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">involved.<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> Especially the cruise <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">tourism responds to <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">the needs of mass tourism and is an integrated tourist product that combines transportation, <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">accommodation<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">, <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">catering<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">, recreation and multiple activities. Although our country <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">is<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> an extremely attractive cruise destination, with a remarkable <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">increase in cruise numbers<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> during the last decade, it has not managed to <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">benefit proportionally from the produced revenues<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">. We <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">lack<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> in marketing and pro<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">motion<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">, in targeted and continuous actions, <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">and <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">also in <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">terms of <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">infrastructure <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">both in a regional and local level. <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">And this is something that needs to be changed, taking into account the economic benefits for both the country and the local communities <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">especially regarding the much needed aspect of job creation<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Chalk<span lang=\"en-US\">ida offers unique<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> geomorpholog<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">ical att<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">ributes<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> and <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">ideal environmental<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> conditions, as well as a decent hotel infrastructure. <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">If we want to be serious in<\/span> <span lang=\"en-US\">promoting<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> cruise and <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">maritime<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> tourism, <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">we\u2019ll need to attract<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> significant investment <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">capitals<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> in <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">tourist<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> projects. The main investments are mainly related to port facilities <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">in order to improve the docking<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> and refueling of both <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">cargo <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">ships and <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">yachts<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\"><br \/>\nBeing aware of the dynamics that can be <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">unfolded <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">in our country through <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">maritime<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> and cruise <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">tourism<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">, we look forward to the cooperation of shipping operators, the Association of Cruise Ship Operators <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">and <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">the regional authorities <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">in order to strengthen<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> tourism development and <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">to promote the wider region. We also need<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> the Professionals in the tourism industry <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">to play their own part by<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> exploiting new technologies, <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">enhancing tourist infrastructure, <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">thus rendering<\/span> <span lang=\"en-US\">Ch<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">alkida a <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">champion city<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> of <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">Central Greece<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> in the tourist market.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Finally, I would like to thank in particular the General Manager of &#8220;MAJESTIC INTERNATIONAL CRUISES&#8221; Michalis Lambros, the President of the Association of Cruise Ship Operators and Mari<span lang=\"en-US\">time<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> Managers Mr. Theodoros Konte<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">s<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">, OLNE and his executives, the former president of OLNE <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">Mr.<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> Tserga<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">s <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">and the Maritime Office of Mr. Nikos Bouko<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">s<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">, the Harbor Master of Chalkis and the officers of the Coast Guard, without the precious and charitable offer of wh<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">om<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">, <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">this event <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">could not <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">have taken place<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">, <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">an event<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> so important <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">for the City of Chalkida.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The Minister of <span lang=\"en-US\">Maritime and Insular Policy Mr.<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> Panayiotis Kourouplis and the representative of <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">New Democracy MP<\/span> <span lang=\"en-US\">Mr.<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> Simos Kedikoglou <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">addressed a short greeting speech<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> while <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">Mr. Theodoros Kontes<\/span> <span lang=\"en-US\">addressed issues<\/span> <span lang=\"en-US\">related to<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> cruise <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">tourism<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">, <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">explaining<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> that E<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">via<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> can take part in this dynamic <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">section<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> of tourism, by exploiting its harbors.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"en-US\">At the closing of t<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">he event <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">groups<\/span> <span lang=\"en-US\">from<\/span><span lang=\"en-US\"> the Lyceum <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">Club <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">of Greek Women of Chalkida and the &#8220;Alonaki&#8221; Association <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">performed traditional dances.
