A letter to congratulate the Mayor of Chalkida Mr. Christos Pagonis for his decisive contribution to the success, in every respect, of the organization and carrying-out of the European Young Men Basketball Championship, was sent by the Hellenic Basketball Federation (HBF).

In the letter it is mentioned that the very positive outcome of the event, proved once again that Greece has the unique ability to successfully undertake prominent international sporting events.
Also in the letter of the HBF there is a reference to the fans of Chalkida who embraced with fervor the organization and the Greek national team. The content of the letter addressed to the Mayor of Chalkida, is as follows:
“Dear Mayor,
The Board of Directors of the Hellenic Basketball Federation considers it an obligation to refer to you its warmest gratitude for the decisive contribution of both yourself as Mayor of Chalkida and all the City Council Members and the volunteers who provided their services to the successful, in any respect, organization and carrying-out of the Young Men European Championship (U20) 2016.
With particularly good results you proved once again that Greece has the unique ability to successfully undertake prominent international sports events and that the Greeks’ warm and generous hospitality in addition to our country’s natural beauties offers the opportunity for our National teams to benefit by competing in the most ideal for them conditions.
It is certain that the participating foreign teams will carry with them these qualities and this unique impression of the wider region of Chalkida back to their homelands.

We note also as a very positive fact the interest of the fans of Chalkida who embraced with fervor the tournament and our National team with sold out games throughout the competition. The fans contributed decisively so that our team wins the bronze medal and to be promoted to the First Division, providing the opportunity to broadcast to Greece and abroad a unique live image of the matches and of the sport itself and of course of the wider region of Chalkida.
We also want to express our congratulations to you for displaying a great interest for the sport of basketball. This gives us confidence that in the future there is the possibility for a new cooperation which will mutually serve the social and athletic goals of our two respected Organizations” .
